The new foals are growing, thriving and enjoying their first few weeks and months on the stud farm. Lush meadows and well-kept pastures provide perfect rearing conditions. Our breeding mares, young horses and sporthorses have a wonderful life here at Sonnenhof.
Up until now, our breeding programme is based on our solid mares’ pedigree with the combination of modern young sires which has proven to be a successful method at the stud.
Our aim is too breed first class dressage horses to meet the high demands of our customers, keeping us on the success ladder of Rhineland breeding.
BREEDING SINCE 1989
In 1989 the family farm of Rudolf and Regina Faymonville was transformed into a breeding stud followed by the takeover of their son Joseph. In 1991, the first mares arrived at the farm and the foundation stone for successful breeding was laid.
We currently breed with 4 to 7 mares with artificial insemination taking place on our stud. Some stallions from our own breeding programme and current top stallions whose performance has been tested are now regularly used for insemination.
The choice of sires is made according to specific criteria that meet the requirements of the sport and the performance to be provided.
The high fertility index (+-90%) at the farm is due to the professional breeding, feeding and care of the animals. Our young horses are bred and kept for the first three years in big fields until the day before they are starting their training. They are therefore well reared to help further their quality and development.

The owner of Sonnenhof Stud farm can look back on 20 years of successful breeding in sport (among others Lord Loxley, Louis Le Bon). He has developed his company into a renowned Rhineland horse breeding stud and has built up a qualified and motivated team.
Our 1st rider and stud director comes from Spain, where she was trained by the Olympic rider Beatriz Ferrer-Salat in Barcelona. After numerous successes up to Grand Prix level (including Spanish Champion, 5th at the World Cup in Frankfurt), she decided to gain international experience. She started working at Hoff Kasselmann, then at Wolfram Wittig and finally for 4 years as a rider for the multiple Olympic dressage champion Isabell Werth. She has been with us since 2011 and manages Sonnenhof.
A French national, after finishing her studies in international trade in Paris, Florence decided to follow her dreams and spent 2 years with Paul Schockemöhle as a rider. Since 2021, she has been working with us as a rider, taking care of the young horses and their competitions.
Coming straight from Spain, Aniel brilliantly obtained her diploma as a physiotherapist in England and then started her equestrian career at Sonnenhof, where she had already done a 3 month training course in 2013 at 16 years old. She rides young horses and takes them to competitions. She is also in charge of the breeding programme, veterinary follow-up and administrative follow-up.
Khalid Bencheikh Azauyat
Part of our team since 2016, Khalid is a central element for the smooth running of the life at the stables: from the maintenance of infrastructure, to the feeding through the monitoring and education of our foals, nothing escapes him!
